Doug and the team at Clear Creek really took good care of my son and myself on recent trip to the Blackfoot. It was was a great day....the beauty, the fun, the fellowship and the laughter. My 9 year old son caught his first rainbow on a fly and he was over the moon about it. Great day, great folks. Makes loving Montana even easier. Tight lines!!! Highly recommend!!! Will be back.

BITTERROOT RIVER
the Bitterroot can best be described as a winding river of which the banks are comprised of sand and gravel. Because of this the Bitterroot River constantly changes appearance from one year to the next. Certain channels may completely close up while new ones are formed during the subsiding of the run-off. The Bitterroot winds its way through the Bitterroot Valley with the Sapphire Mountains to the east and the Bitterroot Range to the west. The river continues to grow gathering volume from several dozen feeder streams before it reaches the Clark Fork River.
BLACKFOOT RIVER
The Blackfoot River was made famous back in the early 90’s with the movie, “A River Runs Through It.” The Blackfoot River can best be described as a river that winds through a conifer lined canyon, with crystal clear water. A good bit of the river is strewn with big boulders and cliff walls. The Blackfoot River canyons were formed by the glacial lake floods that occurred at the end of the last ice age.
Many consider the Blackfoot River one of the most scenic rivers in Montana. The Blackfoot River originates 10 miles to the northeast of Lincoln, Montana. Its flows come from snowpack and springs near Rodgers Pass. Its total length is 75 miles at the point where it feeds into the Clark Fork River east of Missoula.
CLARK FORK RIVER
For raw beauty alone, the Blackfoot River would be a hard river to beat, no matter where you traveled in the world. A good portion of this river has no bank-side development as it winds along through large sections of Forest Service and publicly owned lands. Because of the cooler temperatures along the Blackfoot, we are able to fish this stream when all other local rivers have gotten too warm. We typically begin fishing this river in mid to late June. Even with a little color to the river, we are still able to locate some of the biggest fish of the year.
MISSOURI RIVER FLY FISHING
The “Mighty Mo” provides some fantastic fishing – and often times the best fishing is when our other rivers are running to fast and high. In several of our “hot spots” of the Missouri River, it is hard to even catch a trout under 18 inches! Clear Creek Outfitters can give you a real experience with our Missouri River Fly Fishing Guided Trips.
The Missouri River is an important river to us for several reasons. For one, it adds variety to what we are able to offer for Montana Fly fishing. More importantly, we’re able to use this tail-water fishery when our local streams are blown out due to the melting snow-pack. Another reason to take the opportunity to travel over to the Missouri River is not only the scenic drive, but the opportunity to catch larger fish on average. The numbers on the upper stretch approach 16,000 fish per mile. This is one of the largest rivers in Montana and also has some of the highest fishing pressure. So, if the size of the fish is more important to you than solitude and a more intimate river, then the Missouri River would be a great option.
